China lowers VAT tax for imported wine

The Chinese government has announced that it will lower the country’s VAT tax from the current 17% to 16% for imported goods, which is expected to boost China’s wine imports, especially for countries such as Australia and Chile that have signed Free Trade Agreements with China.

HMRC seizes over 2,700 litres of illicit alcohol in North Wales

An HMRC operation has uncovered over 2,700 litres of illegal alcohol in North Wales as well as almost 450,000 illicit cigarettes, a Samurai sword and an unknown quantity of cannabis cookies.

A criminal gang that ran a £15 million illicit alcohol operation in the UK has been jailed for a total of 19 years after being caught with piles of 'dirty' cash.

Yorkshire beer smugglers jailed for £3.8m tax fraud

A criminal gang from South Yorkshire has been sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison for evading £3.8 million in duty and VAT by smuggling beer – including brands Budweiser, Carlsberg and Stella Artois – into the UK.
