Wine in Moderation, which campaigns for safe drinking, and wine education body the Institute of Masters of Wine will work together to “encourage responsibility in the serving, selling, communication and consumption of wine”, a joint statement announcing the partnership said.

The examination syllabus on the Masters of Wine course will be redrawn to include the Wine in Moderation’s principles of safe wine consumption as part of the tie-up.

George Sandeman, president of Wine in Moderation Association, said: “There is a natural fit between the education and social responsibility objectives of both Wine in Moderation and the Masters of Wine.

“We both want people to enjoy and appreciate wine sensibly and avoid abuse”, he continued.

Pedro Ballesteros MW, council member of the Institute of Masters of Wine, said: “The Institute of Masters of Wine is about promoting excellence in the world of wine”.

“Responsible and informed consumption of wine is a necessary path for excellence. We are glad to see that thanks to our partnership with Wine in Moderation, IMW students will also learn about the benefits of wine in moderation and convey, when they become Masters of wine, such an important message.”

The partnership was revealed at an event in Brussels on 20 April presenting the WiM’s latest Programme Implementaion Report 2014-2015, which analysed the impact of the association’s most recent initiatives.
