Léoube praises ‘dreamy’ 2015 vintage

Provencal producer Château Léoube has hailed 2015 as a “dreamy” year in which harvests were unhampered by extreme weather.

Harvest time at Chateau Léoube

The rosé specialist has given its 2015 harvest report, in which it said its grapes were more concentrated, helping to bring about more developed flavours in this year’s wines.

In terms of the weather, Léoube reported: “Spring was wet allowing the ground soil to retain humidity for the following summer months.”

“June, July and August were hot and dry with no hail or storms,” and the vineyards’ proximity to the sea helped to cool the vines overnight.

Its harvest began a week early on 21 August, and saw a total of 467 tons of grapes collected and cluster-pressed.

As for the wines themselves, Rosé de Lóube 2015 (Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre and Syrah) is described as: “Pale silky salmon in colour. It is pure, elegant, and refined. Beautiful aromas of peach and wild strawberries on the nose. It is mouth watering, creamy (thanks to the malolactic fermentation and wild yeast). Exotic and peachy on the palate, it is still dry and well balanced with acidity.”

The Château’s Secret de Léoube wine (Grenache, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon) is “very bright and shiny red onion in colour, with a lovely citrus fragrance and red fruits aroma. The palate is bone dry, balanced with a creamy texture.”
