The Last Drop launches ‘superstar’ sixth limited edition

Due to launch in Hong Kong next month, The Last Drop 50 year old has been hailed as a “superstar” by whisky doyen, Jim Murray.

The latest expression from London-based The Last Drop Distillers, follows in the wake of three earlier editions presented in Asia last year, with one bottle fetching HK$87,750 at a Sotheby’s auction in May – three times its official retail value.

The Last Drop’s 50 year old Double Matured Blended Scotch comprises only 898 bottles, is a blend of more than 50 different Scotch whiskies and has been coined a “superstar whisky” by Jim Murray.

It was first blended in 1995 as a premium 30 year old blend for the Asian market and refilled into Bourbon wood.  After bottling, a small remnant was then refilled into second fill Sherry wood Hogsheads and returned to an old traditional maturation warehouse in the Scottish Lowlands. It was then was laid to rest for a further 20 years until bottled by The Last Drop Distillers in late 2015.

“We are, as ever, extremely excited to be launching this new exceptional liquid in early 2016,” said James Espey, co-founder and Chairman of The Last Drop Distillers. “This exceptional blended whisky is another great example of that rare and elusive combination of age and freshness.”
