Entries open for China’s Wine List of the Year

Up to 20 awards are up for grabs at this year’s China Wine List of the Year aimed at bars, restaurants and hotels all over the Greater China region.

With its roots stemming back to 1838, the Wine List of the Year Awards were first brought to Australia as Australia’s Wine List of the Year in 1994 to “recognise and reward the enormous investment in time, skill and resources that go into developing the best quality wine lists in any specific country.”

In recognition of China’s rapidly growing F&B industry, the awards were then introduced to China to promote establishments in the region which encompassed Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and this year’s call for entries has just been announced.

The 20 Categories include, Outstanding Sommelier, Wine List of the Year, Wine Bar List, Restaurant Wine List and even Best Airline Wine List, and are presided over by a tough panel of the wine trade’s best known judges co-chaired by Peter Forrestal and Brian Julyan MW and include among others: Gerard Bassett OBE MW MS MBA, Andrew Caillard MW, Felicity Carter MW, Adolphus Foo, Jim Boyce, and Ned Goodwin MW.

2015 winners included: Franck Pecol in Shanghai and Hong Kong’s Yohann Jousselin as Outstanding Sommeliers and their respective restaurants, Franck in Shanghai and Shangri La’s Petrus for best restaurant wine lists.

121BC in Hong Kong also scooped the Best Wine Bar List and the Oyster & Wine Bar in Hong Kong’s the Sheraton won the Best Wine by the Glass award.

Macau’s Robuchon au Dôme at the Grand Lisboa also made an appearance in the Hall of Fame.

Entries for the awards is open until 11 March and results are set to be released in early May.
