HK’s wine trade toasts Riesling Weeks success

Hong Kong’s participating on and off-trade saw sales rocket during the month-long Riesling campaign held during June.

This year’s German Wine Queen, Janina Huhn at the German Riesling trade tasting held on 1 June

Announced at this year’s Wine and Spirits Fair hosted by the HKTDC, Wines of Germany hailed the 2015 Riesling Weeks as a “huge success” and highlighted the great support it received from Hong Kong’s wine and F&B outlets.

All of the participants had an increase of sales of German Riesling – up to 500% in some cases compared to the previous month, with Asian and Chinese restaurants being particularly successful.

Tersina Shieh commented, “This demonstrates once again that Riesling is a perfect match with Asian and Chinese cuisines.

“Riesling Weeks 2015 was honoured to have Janina Huhn, the 66th German Wine Queen, visit Hong Kong in June. Janina hosted a consumer tasting with over 200 participants tasting some 100 German wines from 20 importers. She also attended tasting and dinner events organised by various Riesling Weeks outlets.”

Following on from last year, participating outlets competed to win the “Best Run Campaign Award” based on overall sales and marketing activities. This year’s winner who scooped a sommelier trip to Germany was Cuisine Cuisine in Central’s IFC Mall.

Wines of Germany also announced the fourth Riesling Weeks which will be held in June 2016 with more information to come shortly.
