Craggy Range unveils sculptures

Craggy Range has unveiled three sculptures of Charolais cattle by Paul Day at its Hawkes Bay winery.

The renowned British sculptor’s portfolio includes national monuments in London dedicated to the Battle of Britain pilots and the Queen Mother and ‘The Meeting Place” in St Pancras International.

His piece for Craggy Range centres of three Charolais – a bull, a cow and a calf – which he sees around his house in Burgundy.

“These statuesque magnificent creatures live alongside wine country in France so there is nothing unnatural about seeing them among the vines at Craggy Range in Hawke’s Bay,” Day explained.

Craggy Range’s owner, Terry Peabody, added: “Paul’s monuments in London are spectacular; The Battle of Britain, The Meeting Place, The Queen Mother Memorial have all won widespread acclaim. He is widely regarded as one of the world’s best sculptors but has never had a piece commissioned outside of the Northern Hemisphere.

“Our hope is that the sculptures at Craggy Range will add to the wonderful landscape of art that already exists in Hawke’s Bay and may contribute to increasing the diversity of tourism in the region.”
