Zachys unveils lots for next HK auction

As well as premium Burgundy and Bordeaux, bidders in Asia have the chance to secure rare expressions of Karuizawa and Hibiki whiskies at the next Zachys HK auction.

One of 143 ever made: The Karuizawa 48 Year Old Cask #3603 Single Cask 1964, estimated between HK$240,00-HK$360,000 (US $32,000-$46,000)

Hot on the heels after its successful Graham Lyons sale, Zachys is back with its second installment of The Chairman’s Collection.

Entitled “Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits, Featuring Immaculate Bordeaux from the Chairman’s Collection – Part II”, the upcoming auction on 31 October at the JW Marriott features over 1,000 lots from private collections with estimates totalling HK$32.1m-48.2m (US$4.1m-6.2m).

The sale focuses on First Growths, including 17 lots of Cheval Blanc, 22 lots of Haut-Brion, 25 lots of Latour and 36 cases of 1982 Bordeaux as well as an extremely rare jeroboam of Lafite Rothschild.

Burgundy collectors will also have the chance to bid on Domaine de la Romanée-Conti assortment cases spanning vintages 1992-2001 as well as rare vintages of 1991 and 1993 of Domaine Leroy and Henri Jayer.

Dom Pérignon makes an entrance with seven vintages straight from the Champagne house and a magnum of the 1988 P3, while there’s a direct consignment of Domaine Fourrier including a double magnum of 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes.

For the first time at auction, bidders will be able to bid on the latest release of the Samurai Series from Karuizawa – the Karuizawa Samurai 30 Year Old Single Cask – and on one of the 282 bottles made of 30 year old Karuizawa, the Karuizawa Kinlonz Culture 30 Year Old Cask #3619 Single Cask 1985.

There is also one bottle of Suntory Hibiki 35 Year Old Malt & Grain Limited Edition Ceramic Bottle – one of only 150 ever produced and a Karuizawa 48 Year Old Cask #3603 Single Cask 1964, of which only 143 were ever made.

The sale will close with some rare examples from Cognac, to Bourbon to Scottish and Japanese whiskies. A particular highlight is the rare Bourbon gem of Michter’s 25 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon, considered the most unique selection of the finest single example of mature Bourbon that the Michter’s distillery saw at the time of bottling.
