Stepbrothers’ Catalina Wine Mixer is happening

The pivotal Catalina Wine Mixer event, depicted in the 2008 comedy Stepbrothers starring Will Ferrell and John C Reilly, is to become a reality.

The event, which is the setting for the irreverent duo’s reconciliation in the cult film, is taking place on Sunday, 13 September, on Catalina Island off the coast of California.

The movie’s fictional event sees the pair perform an epic version of “Por Ti Volare,” the Spanish version of Andrea Bocelli’s Time to Say Goodbye.

Apparently organisers have held ambitions to host a “Catalina wine Mixer” since the film was released in 2008 but were unable. With a venue recently becoming available, the first annual Catalina Wine Mixer can finally take place.

Descanso Beach Club has even teamed up with Island Express Helicopters to provide helicopter rides to and from the event, as seen in the movie.

The event promises attendees “live bands, DJs, gourmet food and fine wine” on Catalina Island and is already sold out. Around 600 people are expected to attend the event this weekend, with 10% of ticket sales set to be donated to the Santa Catalina Island Fund to help local students pursue higher education.

Wine for the event will be provided by Trinchero Family, which owns the likes of Joel Gott, Napa Cellars, Taken Wine Co. and Folie a Deux.

There has been no word as to whether either of the Step Brothers will make an appearance at the event.
