Savoy launches cocktail ‘Temptation Wheel’

The Savoy hotel on the Strand in London has launched a “Temptation Wheel” pairing gourmet chocolates and decadent desserts with “hand-crafted” cocktails.

Available in the Thames Foyer, where the hotel’s famous afternoon teas take place beneath a wrought iron gazebo, the mahogany spinning wheel offers an array of different after dinner cocktail and dessert combinations.

From light and fresh to rich and indulgent, each dessert, created by the hotel’s executive pastry chef Ludwig Hely, has been thoughtfully matched to an artisan chocolate and a degstif cocktail crafted by Chris Moore of the Beaufort Bar.

While the Temptation Wheel is designed to guide guests, the hotel hopes diners will match their cocktail to their mood. To add a theatrical element to the experience, desserts are brought to guests on an Art Deco-inspired domed bell cart designed by Inkorporate.

Among the puds on offer are the One Thousand and One Layers, featuring ginger chiboust cream, roasted mangoes, passion fruit caviar and caramelised puff pastry; and rosemary roasted figs with almond brittle and red wine ice cream.

Cocktails meanwhile, include the Kings and Quince made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, quince liqueur and salted almond; and the Winding Road featuring Bacardi Ocho, ruby Port, coffee maple and chocolate bitters.

Finally, the chocolates range from honey, caramel and cream, to coffee, tobacco and fig. The Temptation Wheel is available daily from 7.30pm until midnight.
