’59 Mouton to headline London sale

Magnums of 1959 Mouton Rothschild and an ex-cellar consignment of 1995 Ornellaia will lead Sotheby’s next London sale this month.

Taking place on 22 April, the sale will feature a wide selection of Left and Right Bank “superstars”. Chief among them will be an array of Le Pin from the 1998, 2000, 2009 and 2010 vintages, 2000 Léoville-Las-Cases and 2001 Léoville Barton, 2005 Montrose, 2003 Lafite and Ausone and 2001 and 1982 Pétrus.

A particular highlight will be two magnums of 1959 Mouton Rothschild with “perfect provenance” and valued at £15,000 to £20,000 apiece.

There will also be a strong Italian element to the sale with selections from Tua Rita and Duemani and an ex-cellar consignment from Ornellaia, a case of the 1995 estimated to bring £950-£1,200.

Champagne will also be much in evidence, with cases of 2000 and 2002 Dom Pérignon Rosé, a rare magnum of 1969 Krug Collection, three bottles of 1985 Clos du Mesnil, 1990, 1998 and 2000 Dom Pérignon, 1990 Cristal and Taittinger’s artist collection from 1978 to 2002 (£1,600-£2,000) all going under the hammer.
