Thief slices stomach on stolen bottle

An alleged thief fell on a smashed bottle of whisky, slicing open his stomach, moments after shoplifting it from a UK supermarket.

Police were called to Aldi in Shepton Mallet on 12 February after reports that two bottles of whisky had been stolen. Nearby a man, thought to have stolen the bottles, was found being treated by paramedics for “serious stomach injuries”, as reported by the Shepton Mallet Journal.

The man appeared to have tripped, smashing the glass bottles which were was in his hand, and falling onto the shards sustaining a “nasty cut” to his stomach.

A police spokesman said: “A man who had allegedly stolen two bottles from a supermarket in Townsend fell shortly afterwards when he got to the corner of Kings Close. The bottles smashed and left him with serious stomach injuries.”

Enquiries are ongoing.
