Jack Daniels names first son Jim Beam

A US dad named Jack Daniels has called his first son Jim Beam, continuing  a family tradition for naming children after whiskey brand names.

Jack Daniels Leather and his wife Lydia, of Gray in Louisiana, discussed baby names on their first date deciding then that Jim Beam would be a “good idea”, as reported by the Courier-Journal.

The 31-year-old dad was named after Brown-Forman’s Tennessee whiskey brand, Jack Daniel’s.

Explaining his parents’ decision, Leather told the paper: “My parents decided they wanted to name their son something to make their parents mad, and at the time my dad was drinking Jack, which he enjoyed. My mom said, ‘Why not?’”

Leather added: “Nobody believed my name until I showed them my ID. When I went into the Army, sergeants would yell, ‘How much more American can you get than Jack Daniels?’ I went through most of my Army career not hearing my last name because people would call me Jack Daniels.”

Jim Beam Leathers was born on 14 November. His parents have confirmed that they will continue the tradition should they have more children calling it Sherry if its a girl or Evan Williams, after the Bourbon, if it is a boy.

Leather also claimed that the couple were married by a judge called Johnny Walker, eerily close to the blended Scotch whisky brand of the same name.
