Alcoholic popcorn launched

An artisan UK popcorn brand has created a range of alcoholic cocktail-inspired popcorn pouches in an unlikely food and drink pairing which packs an abv of 5%.

Based on the classic cocktails of gin & tonic, mojito, margarita and cosmopolitan, Joe and Seph’s cocktail-flavoured caramel popcorn is infused with real spirits and carries an abv strength of 5%.

Using an innovative “flavour-sequencing” technique, its creators have said prospective tasters will experience different taste elements one after the other from citrus and juniper notes of the Gin, lime and garden mint for its mojito, and smooth caramel infused with lime oil and salt for its “zingy” margarita.

The brand, which Is stocked by Claridges and has already won 11 Gold Great Taste Awards, includes flavours such as strawberry cheesecake, peanut butter and gingerbread, with its cocktail range its latest addition.

While its combination with popcorn might be unusual, the trend for alcohol-infused foods is not new.

Earlier this year BrewDog launched its Brewburger, a burger infused with enough craft beer it required its buyer to proved their age, while a US distillery has gone one step further by attempting to breed pigs which taste of whiskey.

The 80g pouches of specialist corn are available from joeandsephs.co.uk and at Harrods retailing at £2.99 a bag.
