WOM picks HK’s best eating spots

The 10th edition of the “Word of Mouth” (WOM) Restaurant Awards also saw the launch of the first Top 10 lists for Hong Kong’s wide and varied on-trade scene.

Launched at the Restaurant & Bar show earlier this month, the guide breaks down the best restaurants in town into 27 categories ranging from where does the best buffets and brunches to the best casual and formal French and Italian bistros and restaurants, the best places to grab Japanese “quick bites” or any kind of Chinese cuisine from Sichuan to Shanghai and from hotpot to congee and more.

The full list can be seen here but winners included: Aberdeen Street Social, Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robluchon, Old Beijing, Yee Tung Heen, Island Tang, Old Man Hot Pot, Qi – House of Sichuan, Fish and Meat, Upper Modern Bistro, Caprice, 208 Duecento Otto, Grissini, Yardbird, la Vache! and Sushi Kuu.

The “Restaurateur of the Year Award” was presented to Yenn Wong, founder of the JIA Group. Samanta Pong, founder of the awards, said: “There are so many outstanding restaurateurs in Hong Kong. The one we have picked as the first WOM guide restaurateur of the year started in the F&B industry 10 years ago.

“With the opening of various restaurants in some of the city’s more unexpected neighbourhoods, this restaurant owner is responsible for making these spots hip and trendy. Not only that, her restaurants are unique and have all won the Top 10 award in their respective categories.”
