Hong Kong week in pictures

Snow Leopard vodka launched in Hong Kong in spectacular fashion at the end of August. Guests at the event were treated to a wide variety of performances, including these aerial dancers dressed as the eponymous endangered animals the vodka is helping to protect.

There were also tailor-made cocktails for guests to enjoy as well as the chance to get a little snow leopard body art.

Wines of Chile hosted its first cool climate seminar in Hong Kong. Trade guests got a chance to taste a selection of top Chilean Chardonnays and Syrahs among other varieties and learn about Chilean terroir.

Meanwhile, this little mound of papier-mâché had big ideas – possibly above its station.

Jebsen Fine Wines hosted a dinner to celebrate the launch of a new premium saké, “N”, the brainchild of former Japanese international footballer, Hidetoshi Nakata (front left). Also in the picture are: Donny Ho, general manager of Jebsen, Michael Glover, managing director of Jebsen, Ken Chan, saké specialist at Jebsen and (front right) Akiitsuna Takagi, master brewer.

Hong Kong is all dressed up for the coming mid-autumn festival, with lanterns and light displays like this all over the public spaces and strung across streets and alleyways.

db‘s man in Hong Kong, Rupert Millar, was intrigued by this gift from the Mandarin Oriental that turned up on his desk. What could be inside?

Moon cakes! The traditional mid-autumn treat. Moon cake and wine combinations suggested by Wine Etc. can be found here.

Speaking of the Mandarin Oriental, the hotel recently launched a new afternoon tea service, complete with rosé Champagne courtesy of Veuve Clicquot and a specially made jam, created by master jam maker and “jam Pope”, François Milot. Some of the proceeds will go to cancer charity Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Restaurant & Bar show is in town and the Sixth Hong Kong International Beer awards were announced. Here are the winners, who included importers Hop Leaf and AmeriCraft as well as local microbrewery Moonzen.

Wine Etc. opened a new shop in the Entertainment Building in Central this week. Alongside Moët & Chandon’s 2006 vintage and Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc, this array of tasty Bordeaux (and one Napa Cabernet) was on offer.

The pick of which had to be this 2004 Cos d’Estournel, drinking beautifully but not even beginning to show its age with bright, vibrant fruit and many more years ahead of still.
