Around the Grounds in 14 days: Day four

The Benevolent’s pedalling-powerhouse of a chairman, Chris Porter, continued his 14-day mission to visit all 91 UK league football grounds today visiting Swindon, Bristol and Swansea.

Described as a “less stressful day than yesterday, with Chris facing train delays and cancellations, Chris’ fourth day on the road began in Swindon Town, where he met David Scratchley, chair of West of England WSTA, who kindly made a donation to the challenge.

He then made his way to Bristol City where he said he received one of “the warmest of receptions” from Amy Kington and the Bristol City community trust team.

Full of “energy and motivation”, Chris cycled to Bristol’s other ground – the Bristol Rovers- describing it as a “very enjoyable ride on a nice morning”.

Having left Bristol it was onto Newport County football ground where he had been warmly and nicely welcomed by “the boys”. This afternoon he was due to make stops at Cardiff City and Swansea City before finishing the day at Cheltenham Town. The total money raised for The Benevolent, which supports members of the drinks industry in need, edged toward the target of £10,000 today reaching £9,640. To make a donation, click here.
