Pub sign takes couple from marriage to divorce

A pub in Wales, that uses its sign to display a range of messages, has taken one couple from a marriage proposal through to a divorce notice.

Noah’s Yard café and bar in Swansea regularly alters its signage with messages to the local football team and Welsh rugby team being the most common. But in February last year a sign went up which said, “Marry me Paul?”, and while it looks like Paul accepted the proposal, things have not gone well for the couple.

This week a new sign went up outside the bar which read, “Paul… I am divorcing you” and the following day the unfaithful husband was dealt another blow when his wife put up the message, “BTW I am keeping the dog”.

The Metro newspaper reported that the marriage turned sour after Paul was found to have been unfaithful. His soon-to-be ex wife told the paper that she wanted to “make him pay” after she found out about his affair.

She said: “I was angry and upset so wanted a sign to go up for everyone to see.

“When I found out, I went through a mixture of emotions but felt angry and wanted him to pay.

“We have been together for years and it is so sad it has come to this. I am absolutely devastated and going through a really tough time at the moment.

“I did feel a bit better once the sign went up.”

Bar owner Noah Redfern, 36, told Metro: “Maybe this will become a new way of asking for a divorce.

“We have had a lot of interest from customers who have been asking about the story behind the sign.”
