NFL beer prices fall

The average price of draft beer at American football stadiums has fallen since last season although some fans are still paying close to US$10 a brew.

Panthers fans enjoy some of the best beer prices in the NFL – not to mention a current winning streak of 5-0 and a potential place as a wild card in the playoffs.

According to Business Insider, the average price of a small beer at an NFL stadium is now $7.05 compared to $7.28 last year, a drop of just over 3%.

However, prices can vary wildly from stadium to stadium with a group at one end including the New York Giants and Jets, Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals charging just $5 a beer and the Oakland Raiders at the other end charging $9.75.

Teams hitting the average include the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles.

However, although some fans pay more per brew, the size of the beers varies from stadium to stadium.

The Giants, Jets, Texans etc may charge just $5 to the Raiders’ $9.75 but the former teams are selling their beer in 12 fl.oz (354ml) cups compared to the latter’s 20 fl.oz (591ml).

Looking around the league one sees that the New Orleans Saints offer the largest beer, 24 fl.oz (709ml), even if they charge $8.50 for it – or $0.35 an ounce.

The teams with the most expensive beer are the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, who both charge $8.50 for 16 fl.oz (473ml) beers. That’s $0.53 an ounce.

The cheapest beer in the NFL can be found at the Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers who charge just $6 for a 22 fl.oz beer – $0.27 an ounce.

Other teams punching above their weight in the beer division are the Miami Dolphins, who charge $7 for a 20 fl.oz beer and the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers where weary fans can drown their sorrows at their team’s 1-8 record with a 16 fl.oz beer for $5.75.
