‘All About Albariño’ masterclass heads to London

The “All About Albariño” mini-fair and masterclass will take place in London later this month, offering attendees the chance to find out more about this popular Spanish grape.

The masterclass, which is titled, “Exploring Albariño – understanding D.O. Rías Baixas”, will be hosted by Spanish wine aficionado Peter McCombie MW, who will delve deeper into the properties and characteristics of the Albariño grape.

As well as the masterclass attendees of the mini-fair will be able to sample wines from 13 producers, who are bringing their wines “direct from the rugged Galician countryside, to show the UK trade.”

Eva Minguez Lobato, marketing director for the region, said: ““Albariño is right on trend at the moment. Consumers really appreciate the style and flavour profile of Albariño and the trade, especially the independent wine merchants and the restaurants, have embraced it as an interesting and popular addition to their wine lists.

“We are keen to reward and develop this interest with a ‘mini-fair’ and masterclass in London on 25 November, as well as celebrate 25 years as a D.O.”

Albariño, D.O Rias Baixas is located on the Atlantic coastline and is widely acknowledged as the heartland of Spain’s top white grape. Since the D.O. was formed in 1988 Albariño has grown in popularity and the UK is now the second largest export market. Over the last 25 years Albariño sales have grown tenfold, with sales increasing from 6 to 60,000 9l cases and that popularity is still increasing.

As well as celebrating the 25th anniversary of the D.O. this mini-fair and masterclass will give attendees the opportunity to find out more about this exciting grape and region. Taking place on 25 November at The River Room, Glaziers Hall in London, the mini-fair and masterclass are free to attend and guests will also be able to join some Galician-inspired tapas from leading Spanish restaurant Iberica, which have been designed to complement the wines.
