Glenlivet is star of Pernod portfolio

The Glenlivet Single Malt was declared the star of Pernod Ricard’s portfolio at a breakfast briefing in London yesterday.

“Today, The Glenlivet is one of the rising stars if not the star of the portfolio,” stated Laurent Lacassagne, chairman and CEO of Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard.

The Scotch brand was one of Pernod’s seven brands to set a new volume record according to the company’s 2012/2013 full year sales results, and showed the fastest rate of growth among the company’s top 14 spirits and Champagnes, with an 18% volume increase.

Lacassagne said there was “clearly a Malt boom in the world”, adding that The Glenlivet was “the biggest contributor to the malt sector’s expansion in the last five years”.

Stressing the truly global nature of demand for The Glenlivet, he said that the brand had enjoyed double-digit growth in over 30 markets including both “mature and emerging” countries, with the single malt’s top-end expressions, such as its 18 year-old and Nadurra range growing by over 20%.

Together, such expansion has meant that The Glenlivet is “rapidly approaching 1 million cases”.

Indeed, Lacassagne stated that it would hit this milestone “very soon”, which would take it even closer to Glenfiddich, the largest single malt, which sells over 1.1m cases worldwide.
