Deutz confirms new UK distributor

Champagne Deutz has announced a change in its UK distribution, appointing González Byass UK from 1 August 2013.

The move will see the house join an expanding portfolio, which includes the González Byass Sherry brand, Quinta do Noval Port, Jackson Estate from New Zealand, Wirra Wirra from Australia and Undurraga from Chile.

Commenting on this decision, Fabrice Rosset, CEO of Champagne Deutz, said: “Both companies have dedicated the last 175 years to making benchmark quality for their respective regions… I sincerely believe that GBUK can take Deutz to the next level as far as awareness and market presence are concerned”.

Martin Skelton, managing director of González Byass UK outlined the company’s plan for Deutz, saying: “We hope to build on the good on-trade distribution achieved to date. Deutz has always been somewhat discreet about its achievements; our job will be to share these secrets with those who appreciate really fine Champagne”.

Deutz had previously been represented in the UK by Berkmann Wine Cellars since 1998. Following “strategic reviews” on both sides, Berkmann’s managing director Rupert Berkmann said: “It has been a privilege to work with Champagne Deutz for the last 15 years and we part company on good terms. We wish them every success going forward.”

Despite the split, Berkmann will continue to distribute Delas Frères, the Rhône producer owned by Deutz. In place of Deutz, the UK importer and wholesaler has recently added Champagne Drappier to its portfolio.

Based in Aÿ, Champagne Deutz’s range includes non-vintage brut white and rosé; vintage white, rosé and blanc de blancs; and its top expressions, the Pinot Noir-led Cuvée William Deutz in both white and rosé, as well as the blanc de blancs Amour de Deutz.
