Glass stops anti-social drinkers looking at their phones

12th June, 2013 by Rupert Millar

A Brazilian company has designed a glass that only stands upright when it is rested on a mobile phone.

copo_2587419bDesigned by Fischer & Friends, the “Offline Glass” has part of its base cut away which means it can only stand when supported by a mobile phone.

The new chopp glass (traditional Brazilian beer serving) is meant to discourage drinkers from looking at their phones when they should be enjoying spending time with their friends.

It was launched in São Paulo by the Salve Jorge bar. One of the owners, Flavius Cinira, said: “The spirit of Salve Jorge is to bring together friends and everyday warriors, as we used to say, in a happy environment around good food and cold beer.”

His co-owner, Wanderley Romano, added: “The Offline Glass embodies this exactly. It is an invitation for people to come here, after the daily battle, turn off the online world, chat with friends and live in the reality around them, at least for a few hours.”

A promotional video for the glass can be seen here.

It’s got a write up in the trade press. Job done.

Yes, get the liquid substance closer to the phone… Oh, and it will be just great if the glass sweats… FTL….
