Top 10 gay favourite drinks

1 – The Cosmopolitan

cosmopolitan cocktailAlthough bartenders from San Francisco, Miami and New York all lay claim to inventing the cosmo, there is no doubt that it became hugely popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Many writers claim that the drink was already popular among the gay community before it was made mainstream by the girls and cast of popular US television series Sex and the City.

Queerty recently said of the Cosmo: “Every time the Cosmo trend looked to be flagging, a new group would discover it or rediscover it and the whole process started over again, like the tech bubble, but with alcohol.”

And the drink still remains a popular point of discussion, a recent posting on gay forum website, Realjock.com, read: “I went out for some drinks after work last night to a bar/restaurant that attracts a big gay crowd. I always knew that gay men liked drinking their cosmos, but I was struck last night as I looked around and saw all those pink martini cocktails in front of gay men. They were everywhere! What’s that about?”

Egalite is good not just a statement. Now that it is in Seattle people are ordering it by the case for equality weddings. And we are getting requests for straight birthdays, surprise parties, even to toast the “equality” of becoming an American Homeowner for a French couple moving to Seattle. It is beginning to enter the wider consciousness.

I think you forgot one major drink in this survey… Champagne is one of the most popular drink amongst the gay population.
