Angelus owner to release ‘affordable’ Bordeaux range

Hubert de Boüard, owner of Château Angélus in St Emilion, is to release a range of “affordable” Bordeaux wines onto the international market this year.

The project is a collaboration with Bordeaux négociant Yvon Mau.

The seven-strong range, to be distributed by Yvon Mau, has been dubbed Révélations d’Hubert de Boüard.

Each of the seven wines come form châteaux within the Bordeaux AOC appellation, including Château de La Pierre Levée in Castillon, Château de Seglady in St Emilion and Château Grand Bouchonin the Médoc.

de Boüard has worked with each of the seven châteaux to consult on viticulture, help select the individual parcels and the vinification of the resulting wines.

“There’s a gap between entry level wines and wines over €15 that we through we could fill,” said Philippe Laquèche, managing director of Yvon Mau.

Two of the wines within the range, from Château Boutillot and Château Gaillon, will go on sale at a recommended retail price of just €4.70 a bottle.

Topping the range will be a wine from Château Les Fougère in St Emilion priced at €11.80 a bottle.

The Révélations d’Hubert de Boüard range is set for large distribution in both France and other major export markets.
