McGuigan named “White Winemaker of the Year”

McGuigan Wines has been named ‘White Winemaker of the Year” for the second time by the International Wine Challenge.

The Australian winery pipped two French competitors to the post. It first won back in 2009 and was nominated in 2010.

Chief winemaker Neil McGuigan, commented: “It is wonderful for the Australian wine industry to win this award. For us at McGuigan it is truly amazing and a credit to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our vineyard, winemaking and production teams in driving quality, consistency and innovation across our business.

“To have won this award in 2009, be nominated in 2010 and then win again in 2012 is a huge honour, and something that will be difficult to repeat.

“This on-going and sustained industry recognition has really vindicated our philosophy of making the wine the hero.”

McGuigan won a total of five gold medals for its whites at this year’s IWC, including for its 2010 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay; 2005, 2007 and 2010 Eden Valley Rieslings and 2004 Bin 9000 Hunter Valley Semillon.

The 2010 Eden Valley Riesling was also awarded the trophy for best Riesling from Eden Valley.
