Record results for Arran Distillery

Arran Distillery has more than doubled its net profit in the space of a year.

The Scottish independent whisky producer is now exporting to 35 markets worldwide and has reported a turnover of more than £3 million, an increase of almost 14% on the previous year.

Last year the company saw export sales rise by 25% which is ahead of the market average of 23%.

Most notably, in Taiwan demand for Arran’s whisky increased by 85 %, while the North American and Canadian markets also grew significantly.

Now in its 16th year trading, this is the first time that Arran has exceeded the £3 million sales mark. Net profits for the year stood at £250,000, marking an increase of 113% on last year’s results.

Managing director, Euan Mitchell, said: “We have reported another fantastic year. Recognition for the quality of our single malts is growing rapidly and we are perfectly placed to benefit from the expanding demand for Scotch whisky around the globe.”

As part of the development plan for Arran, production was also ramped up with 350,000 litres of spirit being produced. This is scheduled to rise to 400,000 litres in 2012. Investment in a new warehouse enables Arran Distillery to double its storage capacity on the island.

Mitchell added: “The confidence of an industry giant to invest shows demand for the drink, both in the UK and overseas, is set to continue to grow.

“By forging more paths into emerging markets this represents great news for us as many consumers will begin by drinking blended whisky and then eventually move on to try single malts, which is where we’ll really see the benefit.

“We’re thinking long-term and are laying down extra stock now to ensure we can capitalise on the increased demand for single malts 10 years down the line.”
