Barefoot signs Ben Fogle

Gallo-owned Barefoot Wine has signed up TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle to front its annual Beach Rescue Project.

The campaign, in partnership with environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage, will launch in Bournemouth tomorrow.

It aims to build on last year’s project, which saw more than 1,100 volunteers clear 2.5 tonnes of litter from British beaches.

Fogle, who rowed the Atlantic in 49 days and completed the 160-mile, six-day Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert, will take part in several beach cleans.

“I’m a huge lover of Britain’s coastline, so when I was asked to be the ambassador for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project I jumped at the chance,” he said.

“We have such beautiful beaches in the UK and during the campaign with Surfers Against Sewage, we’ll be encouraging as many people as possible to attend one of our events to help keep their local beach barefoot friendly,” he added.

The 2012 Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project will visit 14 beaches around the country between April and August.

Barefoot is calling on locals at these locations to donate a few hours of their time to help make the beaches clean, safe and enjoyable.

“Ben Fogle will be a great inspiration to the 2012 project, which is set to be our biggest and most exciting year yet,” Barefoot’s marketing manager Yona Ellis said.

“The Barefoot philosophy is all about giving back to local communities and helping to make the environment around them a better place to live in,” she added.
