Hong Kong to auction Grange dual collection
22nd October, 2009 by Patrick SchmittHong Kong is to hold its first ever auction of a Penfolds Grange dual vertical. Organised by Australia’s Cellar Link, the collection contains two sets of Grange, one in bottles, the other in magnums.
The auction will mark Cellar Link’s launch in Asia after the fine wine retailer’s formation in Sydney in February this year.
On 5 November Australian Nick Bulleid MW will auction the two full sets of Penfolds Grange. Lot One is a vertical from 1979 to 2004 of 1.5L magnums and Lot Two is made up of 750ml bottles from 1951 to 2004.
The last known sale of a full set of standard bottles of Penfolds Grange fetched in excess of $1,750,000 HKD (AUD$250,000) in 2007.
The bottles, which are presented in Transtherm temperature-controlled cabinets, will be on display at Hong Kong’s Langham hotel from 26 October.

Cellar Link Hong Kong has developed a new wine retail website www.cellarlink.hk which doubles as a sales platform for clients wishing to trade their wines on the retail market.
Cellar Link was founded on 17 February in Sydney following the management buy-out of Australian Portfolio Wines led by Eamonn Egan, former group general manager at the wine brokerage house.
The company plans to expand Cellar Link into other countries, in particular the US and the UK.
