Jersey joy for Mary Ann

The Liberation Group, which owns Jersey’s largest pub chain and Jersey Brewery, is bringing the Channel Island’s most famous beer figure out of retirement. Mary Ann, the Channel Islands’ best known beer brand, is being relaunched due to consumer demand for products which are locally produced, benefitting local people.

Authentic Caribbean Rum to train top bartenders

Following the introduction of the Authentic Caribbean Rum (ACR) marque earlier this year, the campaign is now embarking on a bartender training programme in Italy, Spain and the UK. The aim is to create up to 1000 ‘Rum Masters’ by this time next year.

Heavy metal wine: The comeback

Trade bodies and experts have spoken out against the report that states wine contains dangerous levels of “heavy metals”. The Food Standards Agency, the Wine & Spirit Trade Association, generic bodies and scientists all question the validity of the research published in the Chemistry Central Journal.

Tesco puts the squeeze on suppliers

Major drinks suppliers are in turmoil after being given what some are calling an ultimatum by Tesco. They say they have been given new “take it or leave it” terms by Britain’s biggest retailer that include an immediate 20% cut in the price Tesco will be charged, a doubling of promotional activity to be funded by suppliers and a ban on any price increase to Tesco for the next year, no matter what the reason.
