Lion thirsty for Coca-Cola

Lion Nathan has made a bid for Coca-Cola Amatil. With a bid of A$7.7 billion on the table, this acquisition would make the group the largest beverage company by sales in Australia and New Zealand. However, CCA described the proposal as having "a number of material deficiencies".

Cuban rum Havana Club has launched its latest premium offering into UK style bars and specialist off-trade outlets. Havana Club Cuban Barrel Proof was created by renowned ‘Maestro Ronero’ Don José Navarro and fits in with the growing trend for rum in general, and premium rums in particular.

Chivalrous approach from Pernod’s top Scotch

Chivas Regal has unveiled a €50 million global television and print advertising campaign called “Live with Chivalry”. According to brand owner Pernod Ricard, the latest media drive “celebrates the concepts of masculine brotherhood, honour, class and sophistication”.

First UK store for top Champagne brand

Moët & Chandon is opening its own boutique in central London next month. The UK’s first temporary Champagne store, the Atelier Moët, will open for the Christmas period and will offer customers the chance to personalise bottles of the Champagne using Swarovski crystals.

Odell quits Foster’s

Managing director of Foster’s Australia, Asia and Pacific (AAP) division Jamie Odell has quit after nine years with the company. It is suspected his resignation is due to the recent appointment of Ian Johnston as CEO – apparently Odell applied for the position but was overlooked.

Alcohol pricing proposals anger the trade

The thorny debate of alcohol legislation reached another climax as the UK government called for minimum pricing on alcohol. The Home Affairs select committee produced a report this week in which the availability of cheap alcohol was said to be the main cause for the level of violence, a conclusion that has angered the trade.
